It was raining cats and dogs to cancel the firsts game at Jammy Green, but Illingworth seconds hot stepped to Hall Park for an emphatic 6 point win. Winning the toss ( yes I know shock horror!!!) Hall Park were put in on a skiddy track which helped Paul Maziakowski, dropped from 1st team duty, to take a marvelous 8 wickets, ably assisted by Steve Smith and Al Robertshaw ( 1 Wicket ) However big Al's performance was overshadowed in the field by his son Ben Robertshaw who picked up 2 league marks to go with a stunning catch at square leg. Maziakowski showed his experience by bowling full and straight restricting the home side to a lowly 49 all out.

In response Andy Ingham, Vez Brooksby and Robin Cusdin made light work of the total, with Brooksby the only victim to fall caught at point. The seconds await league leaders Follifoot at Jammy Green next Saturday determined to give them a tough game.

Illingworth 195 for 4 beat Knaresborough 192 for 4 - 9th June 2007

Scorecard unavailable due to the crazy kids at the Evening Courier not printing it

A long and winding road led to Knaresborough for the seconds on Saturday, arriving just in time to lose the toss ( there's a surprise! ) and be sent into the field for 50 overs under the hot hot sun. However Illingworth bowled very well spearheaded by Steve Smith (1 wicket) and Jammie Moorhouse restricting Knaresborough to 20 for 1 after 14 overs. Al Robershaw ( 2 wickets) then bowled his usual controlled spell assisted by Russ Lockley and Andy Ingham. A sharp run out by stand in captain Robin Cusdin and MIchael Kettlewell highlighted a great all-round fielding display with Russ Lockley picking up a league fielding mark just ahead of Steve Cook and Ben Robertshaw.

After the Tea interval Andy Ingham and Craig Fellows opened the response but Andy Ingham fell to a sharp catch behind and Mathew Sewell was undone by some good fielding to leave Illingworth wobbling on 24 for 2. However Craig Fellows ( 92 ) was supported by Robin Cusdin ( 45*) in a partnership which ultimately sent illingworth to an emphatic 6 point win. Fellows struck many elegant boundaries and was by far the best batsman on the day, picking his gaps and working the ball all around the expansive Knaresborough field. Steve Smith rounded off a good all-round performance finishing on 35 not out.

Make no mistakes a win at Knaresborough is a good performance but it is nothing if it is not followed up by points next week at Hall Park. Second teamers you have been warned!

Illingworth 254 for 2 drew with Calverley 141 for 6 - 2nd June 2007

On England's green and pleasant land the sun shone and at jammy green having lost the toss (again) Illingworth set about trying to bat for the full 50 overs. This task they managed with some style. Craig Fellows 64 and Mathew Sewell 114 put together a splendid partnership for the second wicket following the dismissal of Stuart Thompson. Sewell's innings was a sight to behold, built by occupying the crease and smiting the bad ball for 4 or more often 6. He was ably assisted by Robin Cusdin 58 in reaching his first century at Jammy Green. Upon reaching 3 figures he momentarily tried to impersonate the Pope by kissing the hallowed turf to then receive the acclaim of his jubilant team mates. Cusdin helping the party atmosphere by losing Calverlys new ball somewhere over the vicarage and promptly entering the sixes league.

Taking to the field Calverly were frustrated by some good bowling from Andy Ingham and Jammie Moorhouse with the first 3 wickets falling to good catches at mid on. Cusdin and Lockley with the safe hands. Stuart Thompson then came to the fore with a good spell of bowling removing 2 batters clean bowled. According to Nindy Singh of Calverly (ex-Illingworth) his ball dipped, swung, seamed, spun, pitched and turned. So there you go!!!

Calverly shut up shop almost immediately after drinks batting well for a draw under pressure. 5 points and movement in the right direction in the second division table were satisfactory for the seconds who look forward to a long trip to Knaresborough next week.

Illingworth 133 for 2 beat Alwoodley 156 for 6 by 8 wickets - 6th May 2007
Russel Lockley took 3 for 22 to keep Alwoodley to a low total and in a rain affected second innings Andy Ingham (41) gave Illingworth a good start which Alex Lees (33*) and Tom Conway (40*) finished off.

Illingworth 205 for 8 lost to Burley 206 for 5 by 5 wickets - 5th May 2007
The seconds contrived to throw away a good total, batting first of 205 of their 50 overs, against Burley this week. The toss was lost (again!) and when inserted by the visitors we looked to be in trouble at 88 for 5 with Hall, Lees, Cusdin, Thompson, Hargreaves and Moorhouse making starts but throwing their wickets away too cheaply. It was the bludgeoning Conway who remained imperious striking a majestic 80 supported in the main by Simon Lees 28 and Michael Kettlewell 17. Al Robertshaw survived a hatrick of golden ducks however he failed to avoid a third beamer from Burleys opening bowler receiving nasty bump to the head.

After tea the seconds failed to make inroads into Burleys batters, despite Moorhouse picking up an early wicket. Al Robershaw was economical with is two wickets, Alex Lees less so with his, but he bowled well picking up his wickets. When the time came to stem the flow of runs and secure any points the Jammy men were too expensive in their bowling and fielding which ultimatly cost us the game and all 6 points.

Icc seconds will be looking to change their approach next week against Beckwithshaw. Some good batting, Bowling and Fielding needs to be bolstered by some more concentrated ruthless efficiency and a greater will to win at ALL costs.

Illingworth 180 all out lost to Olicanian 182 for 7 by 3 wickets - 28th Apr 2007
ICC second X1 played at home to recently promoted Olicanians on a bone dry wicket loving prepared by Aidie Statham at Jammy Green.

Regrettably under the guidance of vice captain Robin Cusdin ICC lost the toss and were put into bat by the visitors. New signing Alex Lees and Veryan Brooksby open the innings rushing to 35 before Less was caught in the gully. The seconds mid order then collapsed under pressure brought about by an improved bowling line from Olicanians. Struggling at 84 for 7 it required the steadfast Michael Kettlewell, new signing Tom Conway and the returning Russel Lockley to push the total to a more impressive 180 all out. All 3 showed the top order how they should have batted on a favourable track but in the end the total was below par.

After a healthy tea in the opinion of Tom Conway ICC took to the field With Jamie Moorhouse and new signing Andy Ingham bowling a tight line similar to the Olicanian attack. Both bowlers picking up vital wickets.

However the inability of some bowlers to pitch the ball up and not overstep for a dreaded no ball, gave the visitors free runs to go with the extra 5 overs they received from our hasty batting display. All of which meant that ICC were staring down the barrel of a defeat until Al Robertshaw and Russel Lockley steadied the ship and eventually placed the visitors under some pressure at 156 for 7 following the return of Moorhouse with some fast full bowling.

Olicanians, the better side on the day, won as the lower order mirrored the ICC batting by holding on to earn all 6 points.

Better application with the bat and a fuller line and length when bowling, complimented by a reduction in no balls, will strengthen a good team spirit and high level of ability already evident in the seconds this season. Roll on Tuesday evening practise and next Saturdays fixture against Pool.

Illingworth 235 all out drew with Pool ?? for ?? - 28th Apr 2007
ICC second XI travelled to Pool on Saturday 28th May under the leadership of returning captain Bob Hargreaves. It was nice to see Bob after a long time away, however once he had lost the toss, the team were less pleased. Put into bat on a grassy, hard wicket ICC openers Veryan Brooksby and Alex Lees struggled to 24 for 2 before some stability was regained with Robin Cusdin and Stuart Thompson digging in to push the score to 62 for 4. Upon their departure Bob Hargreaves was back to somewhere near his best biding his time accumulating a healthy 48. He was partly assisted by Tom Conway and Michael Kettlewell but the main support came from the effervescent Jammie Moorhouse. Once the shine had gone from the new ball and the second change bowlers lost their line Jammie and Bob pushed the score up to 235 all out at the end of the 50 overs. Jammie the pick of the batsmen with a cracking 74 cementing his position at number 8. Al Robertshaw and Russel Lockley did their best to ensure the total was competitive Lockley was unfortunately caught in the deep.

Following tea, ICC took to the field but Pools openers made a steady start to 65 without loss despite good bowling from Jammie Moorhouse and Russ Lockley. The spin twins of Al Robertshaw and Alex Lees stifled the resistance of Pools batters Al picking up a hatful of wickets with Alex Lees growing in confidence as he added flight to leg spin deceiving numerous lower order batters. Good catches were held by Conway, Cusdin and Lockley while Thompson, Kelly and Hargreaves ground fielding was top drawer. Brooksby was "Textbook" in his approach all day complimenting the ICC bowling attack. Regrettably not all Pools wickets were taken but a good 5 points were earned and the team returned quickly to an enjoyable Aussie night back at Jammie green.
