Player profiles (A to D)
Nazakat Ali (Right hand bat, Right arm fast-ish)
'Baboo' has made a big impact since his arrival at the start of the season. One of the key members of the 3rd XI he has been a big hit with the players and made many a big hit on the pitch with his match winning unbeaten 109 at Old Crossleyans, where he also took 2 for 10 off 9 overs. More of the same is wanted from Captain Gornall.
Chris Bishop (Right hand bat, wicketkeeper)
'Bish' joined the club shortly after competing in the winning Sol 6s team of 2007 and went straight into the 1st XI, who were short of a specialist keeper. Some impressive early performances with the gloves have helped the 1st XI to a winning start, however, morale is also increasing with everyone laughing at the comedy hairstyle on display from Bish.
Johnny Bishop (Right hand bat)
'Bosh' followed his brother to Illingworth in 2008 although came with a more professional/better haircut. An opening batsman that began in the 1st XI and will be looking to create a solid opening partnership with fellow opener Alex Lees, as they showed in their 62 stand at Menston.
Dorian Brooksby (Right hand bat, Right arm pies)
'DAG' has made the third most ICC 1st XI Aire/Wharfe League appearances and is the club's leading runscorer in Europe. After a personal best return of 5 for 8 at Calverley in 2002, he has rarely been asked to bowl again despite being Head Coach and Chairman of Selectors. These days, he only has his picture taken royalty (answers on a postcard for who wrote that).
Luke Brooksby (Right hand bat, Right arm rapid)
'Emo' runs the website and subsequently make up about how good he is. Runs up and slings it as fast as he can and a lower end batter who gets a few runs now and again. Has a new yellow helmet for the 2007 season, which will no doubt get people calling him 'Bob the Builder' or 'Fireman' Sam', which will no doubt lead to predictable sledging by the unimaginative opposition.
Veryan Brooksby (Right hand slogger, Right arm fast-ish)
'Vez' is the older brother of Luke and son of Dorian. Smashes the ball miles, which means he gets about 20 runs off five balls before getting out. Can bowl a bit as well, but moans about his back hurting as well as moaning about everything else so he doesn't bowl as much as he could. Yo-yo's between the 1st XI and 2nd XI depending on the circumstances.
Tom Conway (Right hand slogger, Right arm no-ball)
'Tom' is a pretty similar player to Vez in that he hits the ball hard and can bowl pretty quick if he wants to. Moved from SBCI at the start of the 2007 season Tom has already made some big scores in the 2nd XI, with a highest score of 80. Bowls plenty of no-balls so he has to score big runs in order to make amends. Possible winner of the 6s League.
Callum Cook (Right hand bat, Right arm medium)
'Short straw' is the middle child out of the Cook brothers, but hasn't let that stopped him becoming a valued opening bowler and occasional opening batter for the 3rd XI, as well as breaking through to the 2nd XI. Took 6 for 6 in the 3rd XI in 2006, which is rather good. He's under 18, so we can't have a photo of him. Instead here's a photo of his dad.
Matthew Cook (Right hand trier, Right arm medium)
'Matty' came back to the wonderful world of super cricket in later 2005 after many years out slogging at golf. He has since gone on to become the 3rd XI's regular opening bowler, ousting Karl Gornall from that spot. Was stumped on a hat-trick ball at Sowerby Bridge in 2006, showing just how much cricketing sense he has up top.
Stephen Cook (Right hand bat, Right arm leg-spin, Wicketkeeper)
'Ste' has the smallest ears out of the Cook brothers and is arguably the most talented batter out of the three. Scored a 3rd XI half-century in 2006 at the age of 13, which isn't bad. Whups the under 13s league because of his ability and looks like a promising player for the future. Again, he's a junior, so we've got a picture of his mum instead.
Robin Cusdin (Right hand bat, Right arm fast-ish or off-spin)
'Cushdin' is a man who likes his name spelt correctly. He is also the club's 2nd XI vice-captain and was given the chance to captain the side in 2006 after injury to the normal captain, Bob Hargreaves. Cushdin ensured the 2nd XI gained a solid mid-table finish thanks to some fine performances from himself with bat and occasionally the ball.
Andy Dixon (Right hand bat, Retired from bowling)
'Dicko' is another of the club's promising young players and showed this with 61 in the 2nd XI in 2006. Not the best bowler in the world, Dicko has converted to a batter and will hope to improve on his sporadic 2006 form in the coming season. I don't have a picture of him, so I've put one of the hard working secretary Ian Patchett in because this website is about unpredictable stuff. It's crazy.
Kevin Doherty (Right hand unorthodox batting, Right arm dibbly-dobblers that get loads of wickets)
'Kev' is one of the club's few cider drinkers, and one of the club's very few players to have taken 10 wickets in a match. Why I mention this I don't know because I'm sure Kevin will do anyway. The club's 3rd XI captain, Kev looks to groom juniors for future years where they hope to move to the 2nd XI and beyond. |
