Daniel Patchett (Right hand bat, Right arm rapid, Wicketkeeper)
'Patch' was the 1st XI wicketkeeper in 2005, but has since not been able to play as much due to other commitments. He did make various appearances in the 2nd XI and 3rd XI at different stages in 2006, which may again be the case in 2007. His most memorable performance came when he scored 145 in a 3rd XI Cup game down at Copley.
Allen Robertshaw (Right hand slogger, Right arm off-spin)
'Al' is Ben's father and has been a key bowler in the 2nd XI for some years now. His off-spin has picked up many 5 for's which have helped the 2nd XI consolidate their position in Division 'B'. An inconsistent batter, Allen has the ability to leather the ball over the wall and beyond, it's just a matter of whether he actually does it or not.
Ben Robertshaw (Right hand bat, Right arm medium)
'Bennis' made his biggest mark at Illingworth in an under 17s match vs Bradshaw in 2006 when he was 15. Ben took 9 for 15 in 4.5 overs, which was remarkable. Ben has also made other notable contributions in the senior sides, such as his 36* on the last day of the season for the 2nd XI. Once again, he's a junior, so we've got a picture of his mum, Helen.
Matthew Sewell (Left hand bat, Right arm swing)
'Sewelly' is one of the more well-known characters at Illingworth, notably for his avid following of Halifax Town and his competitiveness on the field. He returned to the club after an absence in 2005 and has gone on to become a key 2nd XI member as well as having long runs in the 1st XI. Also enjoys the odd alcoholic beverage as well apparently.
Richard Smith (Right hand bat, Right arm potentially rapid, Wicketkeeper)
'Smurf' was appointed 1st XI skipper in 2006, but only managed two games in charge before getting injured at work. In previous seasons he has been a prominent bowler, batter and wicketkeepr for long periods of time showing his all-round ability. He is hoping to be back in action some time in 2007, so I might update you if anything happens.
Steve Smith (Right hand bat, Right arm swing)
'Steve' has some nicknames, like 'Dogger' and 'Smithy', but I didn't know which one to put, so I just went with Steve. After a move from Bradshaw in late 2005 Steve has gone on to become a valued member of the club. Notable performances include match winning performances with the ball against Harden and with the bat against Addingham.
Paul Taylor (Right hand bat, Right arm anything that gets hit for 6)
'PT' returned to the club, like Steve Smith, in late 2005 after a short spell at Sowerby Bridge and has gone on to become an established 1st XI opener. Paul has also made himself into the best fine leg fielder around (not a joke) by putting his body on the line to save every single run. This may be so he doesn't has to make as many himself when batting, but that's open for debate.
Stuart Thompson (Right hand bat, Right arm off-spin)
'Tommo' has been both a prominent batter and bowler in recent years in the 1st XI. He used to be a top order batter, but has developed his bowling to the extent that he is now used more as an off-spinner. His best in 2006 was 4 for 86. He's not bad with the bat either and once scored a very, very speedy 44 at Upper Wharfedale off about five overs or something. The man to see about alcohol as well.
Nabeel Younas (Right handbatting, Right arm off-spin/medium)
'Nabz' came to the club in 2004 and has developed into one of the 3rd XI's key bowlers. Nabeel is flexible in that he can open the bowling with medium pace or come on later for some off-spin. He is looking to develop his batting to become a more valued all-rounder in the side. |
