Sinners 150 for 3 beat ASBOs 86 for 4 - 5th Sept 2007

In an eagerly anticipated contest the Sinners lived up to their pre-match talk and beat an Under 17 VI, with the record Sol Super 6s innings score being broken for the second night in a row.

Luke set the tone from the first ball, which was a no ball from Callum and hit for 8 through point. Once Jammy had got out after one of the slowest Sol 6s innings (2 off 7 balls) Lawty came in and hit a speedy 25, which included two minus 4s and two 8s. Super stuff.

In between Ben had bowled an over which included only a wide and five dot balls, but runs kept coming for the Sinners with literally half of the total being extras. Bit more bowling coaching needed from 17s chief Al Robertshaw methinks. The main culprits were Sam (1-0-30-0) and Dicko (1-0-27-0) bless their little hearts. The fielding wasn't the best either as Dicko bottled a chance off Mazza, who made 12, and late on DJ Lawton managed to scamper plenty of 2s as the fielding was just not sharp enough.

Grant overcame his injury from the weekend to open the bowling and the ASBOs were one down after the first ball. Spencer Cahill tried a cheeky 2 to Lawty who was having none of it and threw it in for Spenny to be a gonner. Ste Cook made a brisk 13 before being caught behind and he was immediately followed back to the pavillion by older brother Callum who was caught first ball off Grant.

Dicko held the innings together with seven 4s in his 23* although this did include two -4s and a -6. Lawty had the chance to get him out off Moorhouse's bowling, but being someone who despite going everything in the field he usually misses (e.g. if he was a bodyguard he'd be willing to jump in the way of a bullet, but would most likely miss it) Lawty dropped the chance.

Meanwhile at the other end Bennis scored and retired on 25 after a clear run out appeal was turned down by Umpire Gornall. Ben wouldn't have been in the frame if you put two widescreen TVs together it was that out. But Ben was soon back in after a sharp stumping by Luke off Mazza's bowling removed Sam. Ben only managed another 2 as Dicko hogged the strike and hit Dave Lawton's last over for 9 despite being clearly stumped off the third ball. However, for the second time in two years Kevin turned down a clear stumping appeal when Dicko was batting although this time he claims not to have been looking for Margaret.

The scoring went smoothly and it was an enjoyable night by all who attended.

Secretary's Mary's 148 for 5 beat Azbeens 105 for 3 - 4th Sept 2007

Secretary's Mary's got off to a winning start in Group A after comprehensively defeating Azbeens by 43 runs. Smurf and Alex Lees tore apart the ageing attack in the early stages, Smurf managing to hit double and minus boundaries before he was run out attempting a run when the ball was in the bowler's hands. Alex continued on to retire on 28 whilst in between Cushdin came and went for just the single.

After Alex had smashed his dad around earlier in the innings PT came in and mashed him for two sixes, either side of the negative zone in cow corner, leaving Simon with respectable figures on 2-0-47-0.

Tommo and Gornall amazed everyone by running two 2s on the trot, after which drinks, stretchers and ambulances were promptly rushed onto the field in fear of either of them collapsing. Alas, they didn't, but unsurprisingly they were both run out, leaving Alex to come back in and finish on 34, with Paul Taylor at the other end on 29.

The Azbeens innings got off to a flier as Illingworth's very own Niall Lockley hit PT for 18 off the first over. Bob was not happy with this though and proceeded to hit not one but two -4s off Tommo and then Alex Lees.

After Niall retired and Bob got himself out much to the delight of his teammates, Steve Smith and DAG came to the crease. Not much to shout about as there were many a dot ball and things got a tad tedious until DAG got out and much to everyone's amusement Andy Ingham had to go in for the last ball at the non-striker's end. The ball was hit for 2 and that was that.
